Abstract

In previous studies on adolescent drinking and smoking, peer relations have been measured in simple and unstandardized ways. The aim of this study is to validate the Korean version of the Problem Oriented Screening Instrument for Teenagers Peer Relations Scale(POSIT PRS). The Korean version of the POSIT PRS was validated with a sample of 702 adolescents. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that the Korean version of the POSIT PRS like the English version is an unidimensional instrument. The Korean version of the POSIT PRS showed high internal consistency reliability and good convergent validity. Also, the Korean version of the POSIT PRS was able to differentiate adolescents who drink(smoke) at least once in the past 30 days and those who do not drink or smoke during the same period. The Korean version of the POSIT PRS is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring peer relations of adolescents who drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes.
